Morzine Summer Activities

Morzine Summer Activities

Morzine takes on a whole new character during summer. During winter the town is super busy bordering on being a little bit hectic, whereas summer is more laid back where everything is a little slower paced. Unless you are a downhill mountain biker. Or a climber. Or parapenter. Morzine is a fantastic place for a summer activity holiday and the list of options are endless. There is mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, climbing, via ferrata, horse riding, white water rafting, swimming, canyoning, tree top adventuring, tennis, golf, archery and  fishing to name a few.

A number of these activities are tied together with the Multipass which allows your group to enjoy these options at large discounts throughout your summer holiday in Morzine. The Tasty Ski Company is an accredited supplier of the Multipass and you can read more about what is included towards the bottom of this page. Exact opening dates for activities can be checked at the links provided on this page – various activities are not available at the start and end of the summer season.

Annecy Day Trip

Each Thursday during the summer we offer a day trip to Annecy leaving 09:00 and collecting at 17:00. The cost is £40 or €45 per person with a minimum of 6 people.

Self Guided Walking Trips

We offer self-guided walking day trips on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We provide transport to and from the start points, a packed lunch, detailed route guides and maps, and in-resort concierge during the walks. The hikes are around 12km each day and involve between 500 – 1000m of vertical incline. The walks provide an amazing way to see the stunning local scenery including unparralled views of Mont Blanc. One of our most popular trips is the Morzine to Samoens walk which allows you to explore the beautiful medieval town centre of Samoens before being collected in the late afternoon back to Morzine. For more details of our self-guided walking options please click here. Please also note that we provide local routes and maps provided by the tourist office free of charge if you prefer to go for shorter walks in and around Morzine.

Lac de Montriond

Lac de Montriond is a stunning lake encircled by the surrounding mountains of the Portes du Soleil. The Lac is a 10 minute drive from the chalet and can be accessed by the free public bus in summer. It takes around 30 minutes to walk round the whole lake and there are a couple of restaurants and cafes to stop at to enjoy a coffee and watch the sun disappear behind the mountains. It is also possible to hire a stand up paddle board or kayak by the hour at Lac Montriond.

Mountain Biking

Morzine and the Portes du Soleil open their lifts from mid-June to mid-September. Morzine becomes one of the top destinations during the summer for mountain bikers or VTT (Velo Tout Terrain) as it is known in France. We love it so much that we have a whole separate page for mountain biking in Morzine! Click here for more details. For lift opening dates and times during the summer season please click here.

Road Cycling

The mountain roads in and around Morzine are some of the most famous in France and have figured prominently during the Tour de France over the years. During stage 16 of the tour in 2000 Lance Armstrong famously cracked on the Col de Joux Plane (the peak between Samoens and Morzine) allowing Jan Ullrich to take over minute of time out of him. Armstrong described the stage as ‘the hardest day of my cycling life.’ All of our chalets have secure indoor mountain bike and road cycling storage. If you want to hire bikes and equipment then we recommend Torico Morzine and Caribou Sports, both located in the centre of Morzine.

Weekly Local Market

They know how to do a market in France, and Morzine is no exception. Taking place every Wednesday in the large parking area next to the Post Office, the market is packed fully of local artisans and producers from the region. Be sure to get there in the morning as it is all over by about 1pm.

Rafting / Canyoning

The river Dranse runs through Morzine so rafting and canyoning are easily accessible on our doorstep. Rafting

Rock Climbing and Via Ferrata

‘Via Ferrata’ literally means ‘Iron Way’ and was first developed by the Italian Army as a means of transporting equipment through the mountains. Via Ferrata is essentially a hybrid of climbing and steep mountain hiking. You follow the steel rods secured to the mountain face while being clipped onto the heavy wire cables connecting the routes. Although it is possible to hire equipment and do the routes yourself we recommend taking a guide, particularly if it is your first experience of Via Verrata. The Elephant’s Head in St Jean D’Aulps offers two different routes up the mountain. Both the Bureau des Guides and Frogs Rafting can provide all the gear you need: ropes, helmets and harnesses. The Elephant’s Head is a 15 minute drive from Morzine. For actual rock climbing, there are a number of excellent options around Morzine, Les Gets and St Jean D’Aulps, with lessons and guides being available through the Bureau des Guides.

Parapenting

This activity involves launching yourself off the top of a mountain while attached to your instructor and parachuting your way down into the valley.

For more information click here to go to Ecole des Parapentes des Portes du Soleil.

Golf

There is an excellent 18 hole golf course in Les Gets just a 5 minute drive from Morzine. It is also possible to access the golf course using Le Pleney cable car from our chalets in central Morzine. There is also the world famous Royal Club in Evian, a 1 hour drive from Morzine.

The Fantasticable

A huge zip wire that takes you between the 2 valleys in Chatel sending you up to speeds of 60mph! You adopt the ‘Superman’ position and head through the valley on the 2500 metre zip line offering the best views of Chatel and the surrounding area. You can access The Fantasticable through the lift system starting at Super Morzine or alternatively you can drive to Les Lindarets (via Lac Montriond) and then up the Chaux Fleurie Chairlift. Approx. €36 per person (tandem flights also available!).

Les Gorges du Pont du Diable (The Devil’s Gorge)

Located a 30 minute drive from Morzine past St Jeans d’Aulps just off the D902, The Devil’s Gorge is a vast cavern which has been carved out of the rock over millions of years. A bilingual guide takes groups throughout the day and stops along various points of the suspended walkways to explain the geological phenomenon. The gorge is hugely impressive and well worth a half day trip. If you do not have a vehicle with you in Morzine then we can arrange transport to and from the Gorge. For more details please go to the official Les Gorges du Poet du Diable website.

Horse Riding in Morzine

Horse riding lessons are courses are available in the Dereches Park which runs along the Dranse River in Morzine. There are beginner options involving a 1-hour hike along the fairly flat forest trail along the river. For the more advanced longer trails are available to Lac Montriond, the village of Albertands and up the Vallee de la Manche. Single day hikes or week long courses are available.  See the Equestrian Centre in Morzine website for more details.
